Video track participant information

This track focuses on video as a compelling medium to document violations of rights, record living testimonies and narrate diverse perspectives. The track also looks at how publishing and dissemination of video can be strengthened through ICT.

What is the video track about?

  • Strategic/creative use of video for advocacy/storytelling/social networking

What topics will it cover?

Pre-production

  • Interview schedules/scripts/ story telling
  • Equipment/software options
  • Basic technical skills for editing – aspects ratios, project settings, etc.
  • Different advocacy uses of video – show examples/resources – show strategic use of both low-end and high-end * products

Production

  • Resizing, cropping, formatting of stills for video
  • Recording and inputting audio into video projects
  • Editing
  • Titles
  • Sub-titles

Post-Production

  • Dissemination
  • Different outputs – mobile phones, web, TV, DVD , CD.
  • CODECs

By the end I will know how to…

  • Plan, shoot, edit, output, disseminate video for different platforms.

  • Built around the production o a 2/3 minute video piece

NB – Participants should bring inputs where possible – audio, stills, footage (either from their organisations or themselves).
