It's a kind of magic...

This is the fourth time I’ve been involved in a digital storytelling workshop, once as a participant and 3 times as a kind of trainer/assistant trainer with Women’sNet. And every single time a kind of magic happens – as Jan says! On day 1 during story circle we listened to each others stories from disability to sexuality to identity (in many forms), to access to land, to notions of “the imposter” and (fascinating) the questioning of feminisms and issues of belonging to this movement or not….. They are powerful. And they are authentic.

Moving into learning something about the technology we use in developing digital stories balances the intensity of the story circle. We then choose images, record voice, source sounds and music (freeware of course!) and learn how to pull all of this together. The process of editing and adding shapes the story, shapes the responses and builds a movie!

We are about to screen the digital stories and the excitement is tangible!!! I’ve had glimpses of the stories and they are amazing. These are our own stories – no one else has made them “about” us or “for” us. It is feminist practice and politics!
