1000 hearts - fundraising using social networking tools
Submitted by jenny on Thu, 11/19/2009 - 15:03.I interviewed Nicky from Rape Crisis Cape Town about their ‘1000 Hearts campaign’
-Why did you decide on using social networks to fundraise?
At the end of 2008, Rape Crisis faced a huge financial crisis. Rape Crisis was finding that big companies would rather donate their money to animal or child welfare causes than to a cause like Rape Crisis, because rape is in no way cute, fluffy or pretty. Rape Crisis was also finding that there was good infrustructure within their NGO for big companies to make donations, but if individuals wanted to donate they couldn’t do so with ease.

Submitted by dafne on Wed, 11/18/2009 - 17:43.This is the first FTX in the south of Latin America and we are already getting good results. 35 women and 10 trainers and facilitators have been working together for 3 days to share their knowledge and skills to strengthen women’s organisations in their work to erradicate violence against women and girls. This FTX is part of the MDG3 project and in Argentina women´s organisations from all over the country have been invited to participate in the national strategy meeting last September and now in this very active and intense FTX.
FTX in 2008
In 2008, the Feminist Tech Exchange (FTX) brought together more than 100 advocates and activists from Asia Pacific, Africa, Latin America, Europe and North America working on women’s rights, feminism and communication rights, to collectively build our knowledge and capacity on how information and communications technologies connect with feminism. The FTX offered five simultaneous training tracks focused on using the internet and social networking for activism via video, podcasts, mobile technology, digital storytelling.
